Rospatent plans to launch a patent intelligence platform that will help Russian companies find technological trends and gaps in development. This will speed up the process of import substitution, said the head of the service, Yuri Zubov. The platform will analyze thousands of patents and strategies of the world’s leading companies, providing access to them to startups, developers and businesses.
The manager of the law firm Levant and Partners, Matvey Levant, commented on the initiative:
“Professional patent databases are closed; to access them you need to subscribe. At the same time, the list of patents is public information and anyone can see it. I know that many patent attorneys are faced with the fact that they cannot carry out examinations, in particular for patent purity, because at some point they were unable to renew and pay for access to these databases.
If someone uses the inventions for commercial purposes, he will be obliged (this is rarely done voluntarily) to pay royalties to the owner of the patent. This is, in fact, why people get a patent.”
The Rospatent platform will cover ten technological areas, including transport of the future and new materials. This will help domestic companies implement the best global practices, which is especially important in the context of current challenges.
