The verdict isn’t in yet!

The International Contest of Young Lawyers “Precedent” has started on April 27, 2010. The online voting for the received works and the possibility to comment them became available on May, 8. In 10 days the panel of judges has been defined and it included major representatives of the legal service business and education in the law field.

The “Precedent”, organized by Levant & Partners Law Firm and by the iTrex Translation Agency, still continues. Participants can go on registering for the Contest here: www.itrex.ru/legal_competition/registration.html and sending their solutions for the legal cases. The contest will continue till June 21, 2010. Solutions will be accepted till June 15, 2010.

The jury consists of 7 persons: Matvey Levant, Managing Partner of Levant & Partners Law Firm; Veniamin Bakalinskiy, General Director of the iTrex Translation Agency; Leonid Mazurik, Chief Editor of the Pravo.ru portal; Yakov Solomkin, Director of Legal Information Agency of the International Union of Lawyers; Arkady Bereshchuk, Director of Non-Commercial Partnership “YurClub”; Alexei Kornilov and Pavel Martynov, lecturers of The Russian New University. Within the last month new partners have joined the “Precedent”. They are 17 legal, publishing, educational, translation organizations and mass media representatives. Among the official partners 2 companies provide competitors with additional prizes. One of the seven winners will receive the “Big Law Encyclopedia” by Pavel Astakhov as a present from the “Eksmo” publishing house. The “Yustitsiya” publishing house will award seven contest winners. Participants who ranked third in each nomination will win the 2010 subscription for a quarterly supplement “The Russian Chronicle of the European Court”. Second places will be granted with the 2010 second half-year subscription for “The European Court Bulletin”. First places will be awarded with the 2010 second half-year subscription for “The European Court Bulletin” and with the 6 volumes The Case Practice Guide of the European Court of Human Rights (2002 – 2007). The “Yustitsiya” publishing house opened its own nomination for the best solution: the winner will be awarded with the 6 volumes of the Collected European Court of Human Rights Decisions on the Appeals Against Russia (2004-2006, issued by order of the Russian Presidential Administration).

We would like to recall that the major Contest prizes are netbooks (for the first places in each nomination), monitors (for the second ones), printers (for the third ones), Parker pen (for winning the on-line voting).

Within the first month of the Contest applications of young lawyers from 7 different countries have been examined. Competitors offered their solutions for all the 6 originally published cases on the international private law and intellectual property right; the preferable was the latter one: more than 50% of the received solutions. Another 5 cases were added on May 18: three on the international law and two on the intellectual law. Now each participant can choose any one or two cases from different fields of law from the 11 offered ones.
